I really am not a fan of Eurovision, I’m not waiting for it the whole year, I don’t like it, I don’t fancy with it, I only watched it occasionally (sometimes for a good laugh). This year I just can’t help myself not to start blablaing about it and the masterpieces (I hope this strikes with acute irony) it applauds. So here it goes:

Poland – Jestem: Pretty Christina Aguilera looking singer, typical Eurovision rhythm.
Norway – Haba Haba: I didn’t get the When I was a little girl my grandma told me that I could be anything that I wanted to. So why the grandma and not the momma? And what is the relation between the grandma and the Haba Haba? And also, why haba haba, does it really sound that much like the waka waka or the opa opa?
Albania – Feel the Passion: This is the song which kicked me into disillusionment. I couldn’t find any connection between the high tones Aurela is singing in the chorus and the rest of the melody. I like her blue dress though.
Armenia – Boom Boom: I was just wondering how come I had failed to see this coming: since there is a haba haba, there has to be a boom boom chaka chaka as well! Why… why…
Turkey – Live it up: With the sudden guitar chords I actually got hopeful with the upcoming song, but soon the guitarist seemingly all so hardcore and rock-ish fades into a song with not-such-an-influencial-guitar-tune. It’s pretty optimistic in fact, but it just doesn’t add up to my mind.
Serbia – Čaroban: I don’t like this song, but they all look nice on stage, colourful and cheerful.
Russia – Get you: I think that the singer is distracted by his own sex-appeal and this is why the entire song sounds as if he doesn’t focus enough. Ohhh ohhh.
Switzerland – In love for a while: This is such a neat song, melodious and cute. The only problem is that it sounds rather American-revealing than European.
Georgia – One more day: The BBC-one videos is pretty catchy; the overall songs reminds me, for some unknown reason, of So strung out from 1996. OK.
Finland – Da Da Dam: Regardless of my everlasting passion for Finish rock and my expectations for what they would bring out at this contest, he is charismatic and the song is too peaceful and nice. I like the da da dam this time.
Malta – One life: Erm…no. Sorry.
San Marino – Stand by: Interesting song, one which can actually appeal to some feelings or memories. Beautiful video with transitions to black and white.
Croatia – Celebrate: No. Seriously: no. If you have any hope at all, leave it behind, Way behind. Although I must admit that this song has a self-critical tone: it shines like a comet. So you see, they don’t even wish upon stars.
Iceland – Coming Home: Simple and wonderful!
Hungary – What about my dreams: Promising intro. Decent all in all.
Portugal – Luta É Alegria: Ok… this kicked me into numbness. I first thought it was a song of the immigrants, or something like that. Then I figured: it is the song of the working-class. And then I said to myself: what the fuck?!
Lithuania – C’est ma vie: Nice dress, nice voice, a song that has everything it needs to be grandoise. And now: what’s with the English song with a French chorus and title, representing Lithuania?
Azerbaijan – Running Scared: Pretty, the voices sound nice together.
Greece – Watch My Dance: No, I won’t watch your dance ever again…
Bosnia and Herzegovina – Love in rewind: Chill-out song, relaxing.
Austria – The Secret is Love: Leona Lewis type of voice.
The Netherlands – Never Alone: Emotional.
Belgium – With Love Baby: Always appreciated this king of song.
Slovakia - I’m still alive: Ok.
Ukraine – Angel: Random.
Moldova – So lucky: No.
Sweden – Popular: A song instigating everyone to believe that he or she will be popular at some moment in life, the climax of anyone’s existence. The theme of the song is self-explanatory, self-indulging and self-inducing: I will be popular, I will be popular.
Cyprus – San Aggelos S’Agapisa: No.
Bulgaria – Na Inat: No way.
FYR Macedonia – Rusinka: Faking a poor guitar has never been more obvious.
Israel – Ding Dong: Not what one would expect from Israel.
Slovenia – No One: Not really.
Romania – Change: Promising.
Estonia – Rockefeller Street: So let’s recap. a bit: Estonia goes to EUROvision with a song entitled Rockefeller Street, singing about Manhattan and the Swan Lake, while the singer sits comfortably on sky-.scrappers. Well what’s more to be said?
Belarus – I love Belarus: Why not sing the national anthem instead?
Latvia – Angel in Disguise: Not too much.
Denmark – New Tomorrow: I like!
Ireland – Lipstick: I didn’t know there was a male standard for Lady G.
United Kingdom – I can: Cliched enough, when I was 11 I used to listen to boy-bands. I know. I know.
Spain – They Can’t Take The Fun Away From Me: Not really.
The winners as I see them:
1. France - Amaury Vassili – Sognu: brilliant choice at the French national selections, a wonderful talent. He should really win a European music contest throughout classical music which is priceless.
2. Germany – Lena – Taken by a Stranger: dark and beautiful, with intrinsic meaning if listening and watching attentively the video. Subtle but powerful nonetheless.
3. Italy – Raphael Gualazzi – Madness of Love: the retro jazzy typical Italian music. Lovely and striking.
Bye now.
